Loudspeaker Designs and Articles for the DIY Enthusiast
My goal was to emulate the coherent sound of a large full range driver but in a more modern and perhaps more spousal friendly design. In this endeavor I
believe I just may have succeeded. -No, they don't have the 100 dB sensitivity of the large Alnico drivers, but I find the sound very reminiscent of the
coherent response of those larger drivers, and certainly remind me of those halcyon days of my youth. On the plus side, the Halcyon has top octave and off
axis performance in spades. Something the larger full rangers sometimes have troubles with. The Bass response is very rewarding with in room lows easily
into the low to mid 30's with aplomb. The SB woofers and the low order series crossover allow seamless integration with the Alpair, and the system can play
at significant SPL's with no audible distress. For those looking for something different, or that full range sound in a more modern looking package, you might
consider giving these a listen.
